The Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival, begun in 1978, is considered to be the main British event devoted to contemporary music, as much for the quality of the programming as for its openness to the international scene. Each year, in November, the ten-day festival offers some fifty different programmes including concerts, dance, musical theatre, lectures, film projections and multimedia performances. The educational programme is one of the festival’s strong points, creating indispensable ties with schools and various local communities.
Artistic Director and Managing Director
Director of the Glasgow Centre for Contemporary Arts in Scotland from 1997 to 2006, in January 2006 Graham McKenzie became the Managing Director of the Huddersfield Contemporary Music Festival. He also serves as a programming consultant to the Glasgow International Jazz Festival, co-founder and Director of the International Centre for Improvisational Studies and of ISIS MUSIC, an experimental music label.
