Associated with the Réseau Varèse since 2010

The Salzburg Biennale is a bi-annual festival for new music and was founded by Hans Landesmann in 2009. The festival takes place on four long weekends in March and offers more than 30 programs including orchestra and ensemble concerts, chamber music as well as music theatre, lectures, films and multimedia projects. The aim is to promote a wide range of international contemporary music and to build repertoire. The festival collaborates with a variety of music institutions from Salzburg, for example the Universität Mozarteum, the oenm - österreichisches ensemble für neue music and others, and is open for international co-productions.

Heike Hoffmann

Artistic Director

Heike Hoffmann graduated in Arts and Theatre Sciences. After working in the Artists’ Agency and the Association of Composers and Musicologists of the GDR she was appointed in 1990 as director of the Music Biennale Berlin. After the fall of the Berlin Wall, this project was organised under the auspices of the Berliner Festspiele and became an internationally renowned festival of contemporary music, which she directed until 2001. From 1994 to 2008, Heike Hoffmann was director of artistic planning and production at the Konzerthaus Berlin. During these years Heike Hoffmann was active in several other projects and served on committees. Heike Hoffmann was named Artistic director of the Salzburg Biennale in December 2009.

Heike Hoffmann is a founding member of the Réseau Varèse, she has been its vice-president (2005-2008). She is its treasurer since 2011.
